Tim RoutledgeTim is a freelance lighting designer, programmer and project manager working on a large range of productions each year & is a professional member of the Association of Lighting Designers (#1291). He has been involved in the industry professionally since 1990 and graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff in Stage Management & Technical Studies where he specialised in lighting design. From graduation Tim worked as a lighting designer and re-light designer for welsh theatre touring companies – Theatre West Glamorgan and Theatre Gwynedd on a number of welsh language productions. Tim also worked alongside Theatre Clywd as moving light programmer for a one off performance of Rape of the Fair Country in Brussells. In 1997 he created the Production department in the Cardiff branch of Stage Electrics (aka Theatre Vision) and was responsible for managing and designing the technical elements for events, such as the Rugby World Cup Experience, Big Weekend, Cardiff’s televised Millennium Celebrations and hundreds of other events big and small. He also became Branch Manager in Cardiff for two years 1999 – 2001 whilst the production department grew. In 2003 he moved from Cardiff to become a lighting designer for Stage Electrics in the companies main production office. In the last few years he has lit major awards shows at the Royal Albert Hall, a number of large events for Sony Playstation, Party in the Parks, themed bespoke parties and one of the inaugural shows onboard the Queen Mary 2. He specialise in environments and instant ideas for quirky or unusual venues. He is a designer/programmer, which ensures my ideas are created to my own brief on the control desk, and is able to operate shows using 4 – 400 moving lights or fixtures. Preferred lighting desks are grandMA lighting consoles one of which he now owns. Whilst making a name for himself in the world of events, Tim has increasingly returned back to his theatrical and performance roots. In 2005 designed 4 shows for the Leicester Haymarket theatre – East, Divine, Macbeth and Hot Stuff all directed by Paul Kerryson. Tim works closely with Belinda King Productions and has been responsible for the design of 2 major shows Appassionata and Zing Went the Strings of My Heart onboard the largest ocean liner in the world, the Queen Mary 2. In 2005 he was also responsible for the design and installation of two new productions onboard the refurbished QE2 liner. Hit Me With A Hot Note and Vanity Fair are both state-of-the-art productions using the very latest in technology. Other theatre work includes Changed Priorities for 3hird Wheel Theatre Company which premiered and won first prize at the Karcinbarcika Theatre Festival in Hungary in 2004 and The Hour of the Lynx for Lynx Theatre Company. In 2000 Tim was assistant lighting designer to Ceri James for Horrible Histories - Crackers Christmas for the Sherman Theatre. 2006 is a promising year and begun with lighting the National Holocaust Memorial Concert at the Wales Millennium Centre for Michael Bogdanov.
